#AmpGlobalEDU May 2022

March and April were busy months for both of us. We had two phenomenal livestreams with some of our contributing authors. In March, Debbie Tannenbaum shared engagement strategies that she uses with students in her school. She provided new strategic ideas and found creative ways to incorporate EdTech. In April, Jenallee discussed all things collaboration with us. They shared ways to use Strength Finders in the classroom along with tools for bringing in EdTech infused collaborative activities with students.

Join us the fourth Thursday of every month at 7PM EST, as we have one of our chapter contributing authors join our livestream and share more about their work and upcoming projects.

We are looking forward to sharing more tools, projects, and activities with you as we get closer to our book launch coming this June!

Amplify Your Classroom:

Integration of Robotics to other school subjects and projects

As time goes by, I am more convinced that history was right. STEAM might be a new term but it is not a passing fad or teaching trend. Historically, mathematicians and engineers were often accomplished artists and poets. King Solomon was in charge of building the First Temple and he was also the author of Song of Songs; Leonardo Da Vinci was an accomplished engineer and inventor before he painted The Mona Lisa; and Marie Curie was a renowned scientist and writer.

I truly believe that integrating many subject areas helps make learning more meaningful for students and also allows students to make stronger connections among the different concepts they learn. One of the ways to accomplish this is by the use of Robotics integrated into different subject areas. While for some students the incorporation of Robotics is a perfect fit right from the beginning because they love to code; to others it might not be “a love at first sight” situation. Often, families believe that Robotics will only attract the kids that are already keen on coding, only to discover that when Robotics are integrated into areas that they wouldn’t have thought compatible, their kids develop a new passion.

In my opinion, Robotics allows children to understand abstract concepts in a more concrete way. This is why in our school we integrate Robotics with Math in different grades. From learning measurement units to learning multiplication, our friend Dash shows our students what it means to roll forward 30 cm or that walking 100cm once equals to walking 10cm ten times. Robotics even helps students improve their understanding of the basic principles of computer science because they can see the results of their coding as the robot follows those specific instructions. We have included Robotics in learning the world map and our students have even created a droid/human modern musical band, The Dashing Musicians.

In conclusion, Robotics has the potential to open many possibilities of curriculum integration and partnership. It meets the students where they are and allows them to express themselves, while often forgetting that they are actually coding or solving math challenges. From the  beginning, students see concrete results from their interaction (coding) with robots and eventually students solve more complex challenges such as the ones our middle schoolers are now facing in the final round of a worldwide robotics competition.

We have finalized our second book in the series, but we are still looking to add additional EdTech strategies around reading, writing, and math to the book. If you have an EdTech strategy that you have found to be successful with amplifying student learning, we invite you to share with us! If interested, share your strategy using the following link: bit.ly/amplifyedtech

Our website has also had a major update. Check out AmpGlobalEDU.com for updates, new strategies, and to meet our contributing authors.

#AmpGlobalEDU October 2021

Fall Updates,

These past few months we have been busy editing and revising. Along the way we have made some BIG changes and we are excited to share that instead of publishing one book, we have turned our book into a book series. We will have FOUR books coming out in our series. Each book will have a different focus while maintaining the same purpose of amplifying educator voices from around the world.

We have finalized our first book in the series, but would love to bring additional educator strategies into books 2-4. If you have an EdTech strategy that you have found to be successful with amplifying student learning, we invite you to share with us! If interested, use share your strategy using the following link: bit.ly/amplifyedtech

As we continue to progress in the publishing process, we will be sure to share it out with all of you.

Thank you for being a part of this project and community!

#AmpGlobalEDU July 2021

Welcome letter from Becky & Matt,

We are excited to have you join us on your #AmpGlobalEDU journey. #AmpGlobalEDU stands for Amplify Learning: a Global Collaborative, which is also the title of our book coming out in early 2022. Our focus for this book and community is to build a space for educators to grow and learn from one another. This is the first of our monthly newsletters that we will be sharing. Each month we will focus on different areas of pedagogy. This first newsletter is meant to give you a better idea of what our focus is, to celebrate educators, and to thank you for joining this journey. In our future newsletters, we invite you to “borrow” and share ideas to support your students and to support fellow educator classrooms.

We are genuinely excited to share some research-based EdTech strategies with each of you to support growth in your practice! With this in mind, our ‘WHY’ is amplifying student learning and amplifying educator voices. We want to hear from you, grow from you, and showcase the amazing things happening in your role and classroom. Please fill out the form (at the bottom of the newsletter) to have your ideas showcased in an upcoming #AmpGlobalEDU newsletter!

Thank you for being a part of this project and community!

Celebrations

Let’s celebrate Debbie Tannenbaum and Dr. Matthew Rhoads. Debbie recently released her first book, TRANSFORMTechy Notes to Make Learning Sticky, where she shares her journey, as a coach, of integrating educational technology tools into the classroom. Throughout the book, Debbie shares how educators can use tech tools to not only grow and learn, but to TRANSFORM their professional practice.

Matt recently released a book, Navigating the Toggled Term – A guide for K-12 Classroom and School Leaders. His new book focuses on setting the stage not only for the present but also well into the future to help K-12 classroom and school leaders navigate online learning, blended learning, integrating educational technology tools with effective research-based instructional strategies, and moving between various educational settings at the instructional and organizational level.

CONGRATULATIONS Debbie and Matt! Check out their new books:

Amplify Learning: A Global Collaborative

Instructional Strategies Integrated with EdTech to Amplify Student Learning

Our journey over the past year has been recruiting K-12 teachers around the world to crowdsource a book on integrating instructional strategies and EdTech tools to amplify student learning in all classroom settings. From topics relating to engagement, collaboration, Makerspace, and robotics & Computer Science to assessment and feedback, we wanted to see how we can help teachers by crowdsourcing, curating, and editing a book to be utilized by teachers around the world to provide research-based instruction integrated with EdTech. We not only wanted to highlight how to integrate instructional strategies and EdTech, but we also wanted to share the perspectives and experiences of teachers doing this in their classrooms and schools.

We will keep you posted on the official release date of Amplify Learning: A Global Collaborative so that you can get your hands on a copy.

We invite you to meet and connect with each of the authors for our upcoming book: ampglobaledu.wordpress.com/about-the-authors
